London’s best grassroots fundraising night out will be back…

We hope Dinner for One will be back in 2024

A dinner saves a life.

Dinner for One works because generous hosts volunteer to have friends around for dinner. They donate £50-75, so each dinner raises at least £300, which is enough to save the life of someone living with HIV in the developing world for a year. One dinner saves one life, hence Dinner for One.

Ah, the Afterparty…

After dinner, everyone heads to an exciting Central London venue for the official Afterparty. This has become a night to remember, with an appearance from a legendary performer like the D.E.Experience or Le Gateau Chocolat. DJs play throughout until 03h00 and there’s a cash bar.

It’s a zero-cost event.

Some charities spend a lot to host a splashy event in the hopes of raising even more. Dinner for One is not like that. Because it’s a grassroots fundraiser and everything is donated we don’t spend a thing to host the evening. So every Pound raised goes directly to help saving lives.

How easy is it being a host?

As easy as inviting a group of friends over on a Saturday night. How you do the dinner is completely up to you - informal standing chilli or three course sit down, any way works. Some people like to host together with a friend to share the effort, sometimes a good cook will host with a friend who has a good space for entertaining. We give you all the information you need to ask your friends to make their donation, and your dinner will have its own unique donation URL so you will know how your donations are doing and who has donated already. That’s all there is to it.

How does the night work?

We recommend you invite your friends for no later than 7pm. That’s because you will need to be finishing up your dinner and heading into town by around 10.30pm. You will want to be at the Afterparty by 11.00pm ideally but of course you can arrive anytime. Your guests will automatically be on the guest list, there’s nothing you need to arrange. There is a cash bar in operation, and the performance usually takes place at around 12.30pm. DJs keep the music playing through to after 02h00.

How much should friends donate?

It’s completely up to them. The goal is that each dinner raises at least £300, which will save someone’s life for a year, but many dinners raise a lot more than that. A guideline donation would be £50-75 per guest.
